State Homefront

Cramer lived in the state of Pennsylvania who's major contribution to the World War 2 war effort was within its factories. These factories allowed for crucial resources, such as coal and steel, to be heavily mass produced by the state.

Many civilians in Pennsylvania, the majority of which where women, rapidly joined the workforce taking on jobs they wouldn't have been able to work at before.  Working for the war effort was extremely popular in Pennsylvania that the number of civilians working grew to 2.5 million.

Steel companies and steel production in Pennsylvania helped with the increasing war effort around the country. One specific steel company, Bethlehem Steel based in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, was one of the major contributors in the state. Bethlehem Steel helped produce a variety of military equipment such as bomb casings, armor piercing shells, gun forgings, airplane parts, and warships. They made parts for the air-cooled engines on the Navy planes along with 70 percent of  airplane cylinder forgings, one-fourth of the armor plates on warships, and one-third of the cannon forgings. Bethlehem Steel also made almost every part of a steel ship, producing 1,127 ships during World War II.
